November 07, 2001 // 2:15 p.m. // Even more breaking news
I love the way incompetent reporters (read: all reporters) speculate in live stories. There's a police chase going on in Dallas Texas, and the reporters are saying such stupid things such as "he may hit a suburban with a mom and kids on their way home from soccer practice." How stereotypical is that? They said that that he nearly hit a school bus and made it appear like it was a huge deal but all that happened was a load of the lumber he was carrying on his 18 wheeler (maybe 10-15 2x4's) fell off of the bed and landed behind a school bus maybe hitting it enough to scare the driver but not enough to damage the truck. So the chase is over now, and soon the news coverage will be as will the job of our incompetent reporters. It's watching stuff like this that makes me embarrassed to be going into the media profession. "Clipped" the rear end of the school bus? Watch the replay today, and see if you think he clipped it. A 18 wheeler "clipping" one of those mini 15-20 seat or so school busses would do a lot of damage. You know me. I'm so on top of the ball when it comes to covering news stories. It's nice to have these chases back to steer attention away from the terrorism related stuff. Maybe it means we're getting back to normal. But if normal is more Gary Condit stories and scandals, then we lose either way. Jason
