November 19, 2002 // 11:50 p.m. (amended at 12:02 a.m // You had better have an explanation, young lady
That midnight curfew imposed upon me when I was 18 on prom night and on the verge of graduating? (which was oddly the only night I've ever in my life had a set curfew) Where is it for my 16 year old sister, who still hasn't come home as of 11:47 p.m. on a school night, and who routinely shows up between 10-11 p.m., long after the worried parents have called wondering where their daughters are. I ask: Where is her curfew? Nevermind. My mom is in bed by 8:30 every night, and my dad falls asleep within a half hour of her. That's why they're not worried. They don't even know. Yeah. 11:49. Senior prom night, I was home by now. How sad is that? 11:53: "Where were you?" "Deion's/Dionne's. (unsure of gender as of this writing) (With a tone) Why?" "Because it's late!" (she takes off her beanie from American Eagle or Abercrombie which reads, "flirt" and pops in to look at the clock on the digital cable box. It reads 11:53.) "Whoo. Seven minutes early." She says that as if midnight is an appointment rather than a curfew. So this proves my less responsible sister, the girl who doesn't think before she acts, has a midnight curfew far before she should. Look at me sounding like a parent. If it weren't a school night, it'd be fine. In a matter of an hour or so, she'll be asleep on the chaise, and she'll sleep well into the 8:00 hour, because she has no first hour class. Comes home late, sleeps in late. Does this girl have no consequences?
