July 30, 2002 // 8:53 a.m. // To tattoo or not to tattoo

So I'm watching The Early Show, and I see Kenneth Starr, and it catches my attention.

Turns out, he's representing a man in South Carolina who is fighting for the right to practice in his tattoo parlor in South Carolina.

You see, in South Carolina (and I believe in Oklahoma) it's illegal to get a tattoo.

So this guy, Ron White was actually thrown in jail for one year because he gave a person a tattoo live on television. Regardless of what you think of his position, that does sound harsh. I know people who have served less time for vehicular homicide.

So he's on there with Kenneth Starr making his case, and doing a good job of it. And the counterpoint?

A state senator.

And he dropped the ball on this one. He didn't sound intelligent at all. He actually said that tattoos are worse than drugs. He actually said that. And he also said that tattoos are infecting our young people's minds because people walking around with tattoos are giving our young people ideas.

And he talked about how he's not against tattoos, and if you want one, you should drive 40-50 miles to Georgia and get one. It just doesn't seem like he's for it either. But he said that tattoos are worse than drugs. I can't believe he said that. But he totally seems the type that would.

And isn't Jesse Helms from North Carolina? Maybe it's a Carolina thing.
