September 03, 2002 // 6:29 p.m. // So, tell me all your thoughts on God
Only three people have posted their english assignments for the early stages of a persuasive paper. I love how my english class thinks already. I'm in a class full of closeminded (or at least those who think differently than I) people, apparently. About how HIV and AIDS patients and transplant lists: "I feel that they should be put lower on the list based on what stage of the disease they are in. It seems unethical to me to give a healthy organ to a dying patient who will only benefit from it for a short while. If they are early in the stages of their disease they should recive the transplant because they still have time to utilize its effects." Of why we should teach abstinence in schools: "The reason I think this is important is it will help the US lower teen pregnancy and accurance of STDs in teens because they will wait longer and have better ideas of what a healthy partner is." Welcome to english 2010. Also known as "morals 'R' Us" or the average Utah viewpoint. I hope the girl in case one has a good argument, otherwise, I can't wait to tear right in. And the boy in the second argument? Teaching abstinence will either cause kids to a) defy the authority of not having sex or b) will not limit STD's and pregnancies. If you think that a class taught in a high school or junior high will cause kids to not only obstain, but will reduce the spread of STD's, you're fooling yourself. Oh, yes. And no word yet on what the crush is writing about. Lets hope it's something I can mildly tolerate.
