June 09, 2002 // 10:21 a.m. // Here's looking at you, old man.

Remind me of why I watched Face The Nation again? Oh yeah, here's why.

Old people ranting on things the younger generation does.

He (the host. Don't recall or care much for his name)didn't like Spider-Man because it has too many special effects, and because it's "too loud." Um. All movies are quite loud.

"What happened to the days of Tarzan? All he had were ropes."

Plus, he wonders where the movies with memorable dialogue went, and proceeds to quote Casablanca. Our movies have memorable dialogue. Remember these gems of the last decade?

"Show me the money!"

"I see dead people!"

"This one time? At band camp?..."

"I'm king of the world!"

"Ssssssmokin!"

Sure, it's no, "Here's looking at you, kid", but we tend to want entertainment rather than a great script.

But I think he just sounded like an old man sitting on his porch reminiscing about when women were called dames, zoot suits were in their first run of being cool, and listening to the President's early morning weekly address was a tradition.

I think that says it all.

No wait. I add this.

"I go to a movie to be entertained. Not to feel wrung out and dizzied by special effects and music that is too loud."

Does this sound like the obligatory old man in your neighborhood or what?

Just had to pop in with that. And hey, this rant is better than the other one I had over stuff on ESPN.
