April 25, 2002 // 8:04 a.m. // The weather in Utah is one of wonders

Utah is in a drought. To the locals, this is old hat. Every spring, we are told to conserve water, and to pray for rain, because we live in a desert and water is a rare resource.

Now this winter, we started off with a lot of snow. So much in fact, that I'd say it was our snowiest winter in ten years by that fact alone. It snowed for days and days and days. Since then, (November/early December) we've had considerably less snow, and once again, the weathermen are dancing in the street that it's going to rain.

How much is it going to rain?

According to the weather channel, six days. Six straight days.

Call me crazy, but whether it's a lot of rain or a little, they'll tell us we're still in drought conditions. If it rains everyday for the next month it'll still be drought conditions. It's a way for the Guv'ner to get us to conserve.

Rain. At least it's not the snow we had for four days last week. I still can't believe it. Although the Utah weather is inconsistent, it's predictable. Unusually hot summer? Cold autumn. Spring full of rain? A very very dry summer. Snowy winter or dry winter? A drought either way. I guess it's just one more thing to consider when deciding whether Utah is the state for me.

Jas.

P.S. No more CrushLink emails! If you have a crush on me, just tell me! I'll be more than grateful.
